So this family is so classically Japanese. Mum pays attention to Son, and Dad is off in his own world ignoring them. But I guess he has something important on the mind. Like he is trying to think of a new sandal to buy or something.
Not quite sure what this couple is doing loving it up outside in *FALL* but I suppose that's better than winter. But come on people, go inside when the weather is cold, sheesh! But I suppose in 1803 this was the cool thing that cool kids were doing, so I shouldn't complain.
OK, at least these lovebirds know to get their loving on inside of a building. A lot less cold than trying to love and embrace someone in the cold outdoors. Good on them!
Based on an image found in a 1901 Newspaper (thus public domain) this ornamental headline might be useless for most people. But someone, somewhere, sometime might need it. Very groovy title. Japan of 1853 and the Japan of To-day. Uh huh!
I belive this is the laughing god Ebisu. The story is he was born weak, but then grew strong. He is the patron god for hard workers like fishermen. He is one of the Seven Lucky Gods. He also seems to have an awesome mustache!
This is based off of an illustration found in the November 06, 1904 edition of New-York tribune. (Thus public domain all the way.) A woman and her young child greet her husband as he rides in on a horse.
A Japanese samurai rides a horse while carrying an umbrella. This was rescued from obscurity from the rare picture book (published in 1730! fully public domain) named "Chichi no on" (A Father's Love)
