A set of various Japanese and other oriental objects, such as tea pot, lotus flower, bamboo, koi fish, lamp, sushi, bowl and a few others. Very clean vector silhouettes. Download and enjoy!
I was doing some unrelated research in old Japanese books. I found this guy on a cover of what would translate to "Red Map" (from 1913) and I was instantly drawn to synthesizing him. His right foot (from our point of view) had been damaged by the original digitizer so it took quite a bit of effort to restore him, but I think it was worth it. Viola!
So I know summer is almost done and gone, but I was walking home the other day and I saw a hand drawn picture for this event. I thought, if they can draw something for an official event then I can draw one just like it and put it on openclipart to share this bit of culture! I'm not the best artist, but this should depict "suikawari" which is like how they play with pinatas in the land of the raising sun. Blindfold someone and then they try to smash the watermelon! Kind of traditional, but a whole lot of fun.
A Japanese samurai rides a horse while carrying an umbrella. This was rescued from obscurity from the rare picture book (published in 1730! fully public domain) named "Chichi no on" (A Father's Love)
